In his maiden title defence at Dynasty, Kazuchika Okada—the newest member of The Elite—retained the AEW Continental Championship, but not before suffering a defeat at the hands of challenger PAC. Throughout the fight, the “Bastard” came dangerously close to having the “Rainmaker’s” number several times. The program began with PAC and Okada locking up in singles action, which they had never faced off before during the inaugural broadcast of the Dynasty PPV on Sunday night. At several moments during the intense action, kazuchika okada dropped PAC with a DDT, sending both men outside the ring; PAC only just managed to survive the 10-count. After PAC countered with an outside springboard moonsault, Okada was forced to count eight to go back into the ring by the champion.

At one point, kazuchika okada took advantage of the situation by energizing the audience and then turning them off to jeers and cries of “f*** Okada” from the spectators. PAC used the champion’s distraction to their advantage, scoring two near falls until Okada jumped out of the way and PAC missed a major move from the top rope.

Next, the men exchanged Tombstones. In an attempt to distract his opponent, kazuchika okada started to cling to the referee’s legs while PAC struck the second piledriver and made his way to the top rope in search of the Black Arrow. After pushing the referee aside, Pac tried the Black Arrow once more. Okada got his knees up and hit the Rainmaker to win.

The crowd screamed “This is awesome!” when Pac gave Okada a German suplex, but Okada promptly followed up with a shotgun dropkick because of his adrenaline rush. kazuchika okada turned off the fans just as he was about to make it rain. Pac executed a German suplex with a deadlift, but Okada blocked it. Pac tried to hit the black arrow but was unable.

Following seven consecutive IWGP world heavyweight titles won during a dominant run in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Okada joined with AEW in March and made an appearance on the Dynamite episode that aired on March 6.

The Rainmaker was a popular babyface in Japan until he turned heel and attacked Eddie Kingston, shocking the wrestling community. He then joined The Young Bucks.

Two weeks following his first appearance as an AEW star under contract, Okada faced Kingston in his first-ever singles match for the Continental Championship.

With his swift victory, Okada broke the Triple Crown Championship and immediately became a champion in the AEW.

Before making a comeback in March to protect Kingston and Penta El Zero Miedo from an attack by Okada and The Young Bucks, Pac, the former AEW world trios champion and All-Atlantic Championship champion, had been out of action for months.

As a result, Pac challenged Okada to a continental championship match, which Okada accepted on the Dynamite show airing on April 10.

As he and The Young Bucks assaulted Pac and also took out FTR when they tried to even the odds, Okada’s acceptance appeared to be a well-laid trap.

The Bucks not only stunned Pac with an EVP Trigger, but Okada added the icing on the cake by striking him with a steel chair.

Although Pac presented a formidable obstacle and proved to be an excellent first-round pay-per-view opponent for Okada, it was inevitable that The Rainmaker would prevail, and he did.
